Discover Roy's Ko Olina

Stepping into Roy's Ko Olina feels like easing into a relaxed island rhythm where polished dining meets barefoot-friendly comfort. Tucked inside the Ko Olina Resort area at 92-1220 Aliinui Dr, Kapolei, HI 96707, United States, this spot has become a familiar favorite for locals and visitors who want refined food without the stiff fine-dining vibe. I’ve eaten here more than once after long beach days, and each visit has delivered the same thing: consistency, warmth, and flavors that actually reflect Hawaiʻi rather than just borrowing its name.

The menu leans heavily into Pacific Rim cuisine, a style pioneered by chef Roy Yamaguchi, who is widely credited by culinary organizations like the James Beard Foundation for shaping Hawaiian Regional Cuisine. That influence shows up in thoughtful combinations such as miso-glazed fish, braised short ribs, and fresh sashimi paired with unexpected sauces. During one visit, I watched the kitchen handle a packed dining room without missing a beat, which says a lot about the systems in place. Dishes came out hot, plated cleanly, and timed well, even during peak dinner hours.

Seafood here deserves special mention. Hawaiʻi imports a surprising amount of fish, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, yet restaurants like this prioritize locally sourced options when available. That commitment translates into fresher texture and cleaner flavor. One server explained how the kitchen adjusts the menu slightly depending on what local suppliers deliver that week, a real-world example of adapting process to product rather than forcing ingredients into preset recipes.

Service plays a huge role in why reviews tend to stay positive. On my last visit, our server broke down the menu in a way that made it approachable, especially for guests unfamiliar with fusion cuisine. Instead of rattling off buzzwords, they explained how flavors balance sweet, savory, and umami, which helped first-timers order with confidence. That kind of guidance builds trust, especially in a destination restaurant where many diners are visiting for the first time.

The dining room itself strikes a comfortable balance. It’s upscale enough for anniversaries but casual enough that you don’t feel out of place in resort wear. Large windows and warm lighting keep things airy, and the bar area stays lively without overpowering conversations. Families, couples, and solo diners all seem to fit naturally into the space, which isn’t easy to pull off.

Location matters, and this one benefits from being close to beaches, lagoons, and nearby resorts. Many diners plan their evening around sunset walks, then settle in for dinner, which adds to the overall experience. Parking is straightforward, and reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, based on both personal experience and patterns noted in recent customer reviews across major dining platforms.

No restaurant is perfect, and prices here reflect the resort setting and ingredient quality. While not ideal for budget dining, portions are fair, and the level of execution justifies the cost for most guests. The only limitation I’ve noticed is that peak hours can feel busy, though staff usually manages the flow well.

What stands out most is how the restaurant manages to feel dependable without being predictable. Each visit reinforces why it holds a solid reputation among Ko Olina locations. When people talk about memorable island dining that blends expertise, hospitality, and genuine flavor, this place tends to come up for good reason.

  • Highly recommend reservations. I would also recommend the kitchen is a little slow to come out but you will not be disappointed in flavor, taste, design, or portion size. The sushi was and the drinks were also tasty. I loved their edemane appetizer and Brie with apples were delicious With tip we payed over $200 for 2 ( we had an app, 2 drinks , 2 entrees )

  • This place should definitely be a 5 star, not less. The food was amazing, I was served pretty quickly and landed on happy hour. I ordered a variety of sashimi (salmon, tuna, hamachi), served beautifully with radish, cucumbers and Hawaiian seaweed. The edamame sticks were amazing! The best of all! And octopus rolls, were good, with pieces of octopus inside! Do their famous pineapple martini . Very refined taste, perfect blend. And desserts are just beyond your expectations! The pineapple upside down cake and chocolate soufflé (lava cake) were top notch! The lava was actually coming out of it very mesmerizing. Well, just the food, and the service was amazing, I was very well taken care of, always had my glass of water topped and plates cleared right away. Not even mentioning the personal and professional approach of my server, Jesse. He helped me pick the best dishes to my liking and I loved everything he suggested. Will definitely be back here again!

  • As the saying goes, you normally get what you pay for. The prices at Roy's may turn off some, but what you get with the price is an amazing dining experience with high quality and delicious meals and friendly service in a wonderful atmosphere. Reservations are recommended. We were promptly seated up on arrival as we had family who were local to the area set up reservations. Our server, Lisa, was amazing and since some of my family was dining at a Roy's for the first time, she explained the items on the menu thoroughly and gave wonderful recommendations. We took her recommendation for the appetizer sampler (The Canoe for Two). The hand made chicken spring rolls were amazing, and the blackened ahi seemed to melt in our mouths. The fish and chips ordered by some of our family was delicious and the fish was very flaky and flavorful. My kids shared a 16 oz ribeye, and even though they ordered it medium well (don't judge), the steak was still juicy and very tender despite being prepared medium well. I had the prime rib sandwich based on Lisa's recommendation, and I would highly recommend this dish (make sure you show up hungry). To end the meal, I highly recommend the chocolate souffle. I would come back just on this dessert alone! What was a very nice touch was that, since it was some of my family's first time to the island, they added in some extras such as an ice cream sandwich and an extra chocolate dessert at no cost! All that said, again, the price point may be a turn off for some, but if you want to do a little fine dining in an absolutely beautiful location, you can't go wrong with Roy's at Ko Olina!

  • We had such a wonderful experience at Roy’s Ko’Olina. The food was absolutely amazing — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The service was excellent; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made the evening feel special. They also have great keiki menu options, which made it perfect for our little one. It’s a fantastic spot to enjoy with family, and we highly recommend it for anyone visiting Ko’Olina!

  • We’ve been to Roy’s at Ko Olina many times and plan to keep going back! The food is always outstanding — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff are consistently friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and relaxed. It’s one of our favorite places to dine in Hawaii, every single time.

  • Roy’s was an experience in a beautiful setting. All our food and drinks were amazing including the desserts. Our server, Quinn, was so pleasant and fun to get to know while we dined. Expensive but very worth it. Go!

  • Had a wonderful dinner on the outside deck on a lovely Hawaiian night. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was outstanding. We started with the baked brie and wine poached apples with macadamia nuts, we also had a spectacular ahi roll, filled with fresh Ahi tuna and spicy sauce over it ,we also had an appetizer of grilled Brussels sprouts that were simply amazing. For our main meals we started with a Plantation Paella, even though we were pretty well stuffed with the abundant appetizers, the paella was superb with nice chunks of lobster and local seafood specialties, that was joined with a fresh Mahi Mahi in a fennel sauce which was delicate, flaky and exquisite, that was joined by a miso butterfish and a Chinese pink snapper that were all fresh, beautifully presented and superbly prepared. I don’t even want to tell you how much of a hit to the wallet this was but by Hawaiian standards this meal and this restaurant were well worth it.
